Re: “Drifter's

Best food for the best price in town . Creative without being overly "foodie" . The patio wasn't yet open when we were there . Hope to enjoy it when we return .

I like capitalism . It feeds the sponges who get to gripe about it .

Re: “UVM Medical Center Doctors Curb Opiate Prescriptions

Gi Grape , I have to ask , are opiates and synthetic opiates sustainable for long term chronic pain ? I'm not suggesting any moral failings but can patients use these drugs safely for extended periods ? My MIL had to be weaned off oxycodone after horrific results . Her constant pain problems were compounded with addiction and cardio issues . Her pain is still an issue but the holistic pain management approach she is now on seems more sustainable long term . Oxycodone was going to kill her .
As a side note I recently had minor foot surgery . On the way out I was given a prescription for oxycodone by the secretary . My son was given the same after wisdom teeth removal also by the secretary . After hearing the horror stories, we said no thanks .

Re: “Super Volunteer Laura Hale Grows Community in Burlington's Old North End

Related stories ? How about this one ,…
I knew we would hear about Toni Foote and her brood again .
I do recognize this is a side issue which has little to do with the good work Laura Hale does .

Re: “Up to Here in Deer: As Fewer Vermonters Hunt, the Growing Herd Is Becoming a Problem

Had a conversation with a VFWD officer . He told me they were always getting calls from homeowners , often weekenders or new residents, complaining about the damage the deer were doing to their greenery . He told me they asked if his department could humanely trap the deer . Also they had usually posted their land .

Re: “Counselor Julia Rogers Helps Students Navigate Their Gap Year

Interesting article . My first thought was the usual old fart reaction , how utterly self-indulgent these little snowflakes are . Reading the article and thinking a little more , perhaps entering university with no idea what you want or where you are going isn't ideal either . Perhaps a year to figure out your goals and aspirations is not a bad idea . University is a fortune and perhaps not the best place to find yourself .
My biggest issue is Ms Roger's ignoring the option of actually WORKING at a paying JOB instead of travelling the world . Perhaps that's a better use of this gap year for many. Actual work is a very good way of finding out how the world actually operates .

Re: “Stuck in Vermont: Artist Jess Graham and Volunteers Bring a Burlington Wall to Life With a New Mural

What's going on here ! Before beginning this mural a commission should have been set up to properly analyse intentions and offer their conclusions . But only after lengthy public hearings have been convened .Just be very very careful that you don't somehow manage to offend anyone by inclusion or omission . This should take no less than eight, ten years tops . We don't , God forbid , want another Leahy Way mural fiasco !
