Re: “Adoptees and Parents Reflect on Transracial Adoption in Vermont

I definitely appreciated this story. While I am not a Transracial Adoptee, I am a Black woman, raising Black children in a non-diverse environment. In fact its the same environment I grew up in. The discrimination, racism, privilege and supremacy weve dealt with have been life altering. However, having parents that knew how to navigate around these issues was instrumental in my success, and Im doing the same with my kiddos.

I do advocate for the parents and families once the placements have been made. As a Culture Guide and Coach I have a passion to serve those families with Black children, and hope to be part of the process to eradicate racism. The author is right, we get coaches for sports and academics, but dont consider the value it can bring for cultural consciousness, nor do we examine the consequences of not doing the hard work!
