Re: “A Fish Story: The Battle to Remove Swanton Dam

Then Damn needs to come down bottom line. Historical my ass. What's historical was altered by idiots when they built the dam. I live on the River next to the Damn, with 95 feet riverfront. It's not doing anybody any good, especially our fisheries. Which our kids and wildlife will benefit from it's impact of being removed. Anyone who buys a fishing license and fishes the River or Lake Champlain should lobby for it's removal. Restoring habitat is way more important than staring at water rolling over concrete. If they like the sound then they should ask for small rock walls that will create rapids and pools that would hold fish and also allow them to travel upstream to spawning habitat. Anyone who understands the impact it has on the environments natural ability to produce wild fish would say, why doesn't the State DEMAND it's removal? It's really not pretty by any means. It's 8ft high and most of the time has a log caught on it. Hell even the kayak groups should be pulling for its removal. Would allow them more territory to travel on the river.
