Re: “Waiting for Winooski

Yet another example, but hardly the last unfortunately, in a long string of similar tales of what happens when liberal masterminds try to "plan" life for the serfs around them. This is Utopia when it is exposed to the light of Reality. Seriously, did the planners really expect to establish a viable tax base with card stores, pastry shops, juice bars, and boutiques? This isn't "smart growth" and "thinking outside the box"; it's the same old formula from the usual liberal suspects, who seem incapable of understanding what goes into a successful business. And to have to wait 20 years (!) for the first penny of city revenue from this project? What genius conceived that scheme? If this city is ever going to reach the Promised Land, it ain't going to be via “small shops, busy restaurants, and cafés serving coffee and fresh pastries.” Wake up and smell the coffee, and stop blaming the "down economy" (and please stop blaming President George W. Bush). It's the concept, stupid, including the notion of the "concept restaurant" as economic savior. I can understand why Barack Obama carried this state so easily in the past two elections.
