Re: “Burlington's St. Paul Street Makeover Confounds Drivers

St.Paul St is a major artery into and out of Burlington. Putting these sorts of artificial barriers in the way will encourage people to bypass the intersection by driving a circuitous through the surrounding neighborhoods. Some DPW engineer's silly idea of an extra-narrow intersection that damages cars and slows traffic to a crawl is misplaced to say the least. Traffic headed out of Burlington is regularly backed up on Maple all the way from St. Paul St. to Battery St. I see it every day as I work there. All those idling vehicles, attaining 0 mpg as they spew exhaust. "Great Streets"? I think not. Not in this case at least.

Re: “Shumlin Announces He Won't Seek Reelection in 2016

Why would anyone be "stunned" by that news? He barely won his last election and since then he's squandered every bit of integrity and good will by distancing himself from the $100-million-plus health care debacle, and flip-flopping on new taxes and gun laws. He's done nothing to address high property taxes and ridiculously high education spending, either.

You might be tempted to say he's a good man but a lousy governor, but then there's that whole screw-your-neighbor land deal that he tried to get away with.

"Stunning" news? I don't think so.

Re: “Governor: Crucial Deadline Met on Vermont Health Connect

I'm glad my mechanic doesn't work like this! "Yes, you're car is fixed! You can come use it in about 120 days. Probably"

I won't tell you how much it cost, because I don't know. But trust me, it was totally worth it.

Re: “Standoff Resolved, Vermont Legislature Adjourns

So- they did nothing to remedy the out of control property taxes, and they did nothing to address education spending. But they did find ways to take $30,000,000 more of our dollars with the idea that they know best what we Vermonters need.

How much worse does it need to get?

Re: “Shumlin Expects to Sign Vaccination Bill

So, barely-governor Shumin will sign this bill. Unless he changes his mind.

Good. I'm getting tired of time after time having to bend over backwards to assuage a flaky few at the expense of the rest of our society. stellaquarta is correct; There are options. Don't like those options? Too bad! Your dislike does not trump the rights of all of those who would be so badly hurt in the event of an outbreak. Open your eyes, measles are making a comeback! Yay you!

Medical exemptions? Totally fine, the right thing to do, and that's between you, your doctor, and nobody else..

Relying on the "herd effect" to keep your child safe because of your "philosophy"? You disgust me.

Re: “Lawmakers Look to Legalize Gun Suppressors

I dunno.... that sure does make the gun look scary! Eeek.

Re: “Media Note: After Silence, Freeps Editor Slams 'Rumors and Speculation'

There's a real arrogance at the Free Press. This arrogance is apparent in how they treat their employees, their advertisers, their readers and their colleagues. The time has passed when they were the only fish in this little pond. I don't know enough about other markets to know if such arrogance is accepted in other markets, but it's obvious that it doesn't play in Vermont. I don't like it, so I don't read it, and I don't see who advertises in it.
