Re: “Vermont Faces 'Staggering' State Budget Shortfall

Let's see. Expected shortage of up to $45 million in the education fund. The fund has a $37 million reserve balance. Reserve gone. The NEA has told the state that teachers will be paid their full salary for the year. There goes the $37 million reserve. Estimated increase in education budget next year, around 6%. Estimated increase in property taxes, only god knows, maybe. The governor said we are all in this together. He should have said that we are all in this together, unless you are a member of the NEA. The NEAs boss, the Vermont taxpayers, are more than happy to pay your share of the "we are all in this together".

Re: “Sanders Skips Key Vote on Coronavirus Rescue Package

I am absolutely dumbfounded. He has had such a stellar record of being present for senate roll call votes for the last five years. Shocking.

Re: “Legislature Takes Up Resolution to Apologize for Role in Eugenics Movement

What exactly will this do to reduce the unsustainable increases in Vermonts spending on education and in turn lower are property taxes. Does the legislature think this issue is more important.

Re: “Burlington Police Chief Admits He Used an Anonymous Twitter Account to Taunt a Critic

I am bipolar. I was hospitalized several times before the doctors were able to find the right mix of meds that has nearly eliminated my extreme manic episodes. When I went to group meetings at the hopsital, I realized that anythng that I did when I was manic was ultimately my responsibility regardless of my mental state. I feel that I should not blame my illness for things that I did. It is my responsibilty to control myself. Luckily, I never did things that would hurt other people. I lost my job because of my illness, rightly so. I did continue to work for a couple years and it was obvious that I couldn't do it well anymore. I worked with 2 of my friends who are carpenters for the next 16 years until I turned 65. I didn't make much money but it was something I could do and I enjoyed it. The bottom line is I will take responsiblity for my actions and I will not use my mental illness as excuse for them.

Re: “Ranked-Choice Voting Not Likely to Be on March Ballot in Burlington

I am glad to proclaim that I don't live in Burlington. With that being said, from my limited understanding of Burlingtons politics, I have 2 words to explain my opposition to ranked voting. Bob Kiss.

Re: “Scott Pulls State-Owned Nazi Rifle Off the Market

My father was in the 10th mountain division in WW II. The first military operation for the 87th division of the 10th was to kick out the Japanese who had captured the American island Kiska. When they landed on the Island they didn't know that the Japanese knew that the allied forces were coming and had evacuated the island. Many were killed by booby traps and friendly fire before they found out the Japanese were gone. He was very fond of the japanese items that he brought home. His favorite was a diffused Japanese hand grenade. I have the items now. To him, and to me now, these things are priceless momentos. Today Japan and West Germany are not about Hirohito and Hitler. Like the grenade, these rifles are prized pieces of history.
