Re: “Senate Committee's Proposal to Fund Clean Water Evaporates

Perhaps Xenu will use Adam Smith's invisible hand to give the peasants clean water. Elected state officials have one job above all others, ignore the scam artists and secure the watersheds.

Re: “Senate Committee's Proposal to Fund Clean Water Evaporates

Vermont's elected state officials, yes the Governor too, are having their 1d10t moment. I didn't realize their priorities were this screwed up. Water comes from the tap, right? Only morons view clean water through the cultist lens of economics and taxes.

Re: “Burlington Councilors Press del Pozo on Police Use of Force

"No one ever thinks they are a bad person." Said my university Ethics Prof. And, so, it would seem to me we have City Officials who are refusing to question whether the approach they have been taught, or learned through experience, is the best one for the City of Burlington going forward. For the City Attorney to shut down debate is akin to a power backed refusal to engage. Using this tactic with the Council demonstrates they have little interest in a forthright debate with elected representatives. Perhaps, the "One Size Fits All" approach that may have worked in the NYC PD, perhaps learned under Guiliani, might not be in the best interest of Burlington. Perhaps, Growth as a Virtue, at any cost, sine qua non, as taught by the Kennedy School, might not be in the best interest of Burlington. Do we have City leaders questioning their own worst inclinations? Their demonstrations lead me to conclude this is highly doubtful. The next election can't come soon enough.

Re: “Minimum Wage Increase Could Trigger Costly Medicaid Shortfall

Furthermore, if achievement is the goal here, then raising the min wage provides more of an incentive to enter the workforce, not less... I suppose then the stated goal of "economic development" really means that only business owners ought to be the sole beneficiaries of said development. The rest can eat cake right?

Re: “Minimum Wage Increase Could Trigger Costly Medicaid Shortfall

Are you referring to Medicaid costs at the current enrollment level? What you left out, Taylor, was the silly fact that with a min wage increase to $15 per hour fewer people could be eligible for Medicaid benefits. Nowhere in the document presented as evidence of such a Medicaid shortfall is the mention of Medicaid. Did you just make this up? Let's do some math. 35 hours a week at 15 per hour, x 52 weeks, divided by 12 = 2275. The 2019 monthly income limit for Medicaid for Adults, HH of 1, is 1437.05 p/month. So, if someone works ~24 hours a week for ~4 weeks a month, they may no longer be eligible for Medicaid. Did the "Economist" factor this is? If not, then your headline is misleading. Perhaps a correction might be in order?

Re: “Koch-Supported Entity Helped Fund Controversial Speaker at Middlebury

"The Hamilton Series is meant to broaden debate and inquiry at the highly selective private liberal arts college. " No, the intent most certainly is not to broaden debate. The intent is to control the debate. I suppose subjecting students to odious arguments might seem to uphold one narrow conception of "freedom" but it would seem Prof Callahan might not be as well prepared for the role as previously thought. When one can read an odious perspective in a text book, what is the point of bringing the author in for a paid lesson? Perhaps to stand with authority behind a lectern and preach to the uncivilized heathens? Prof Callahan might need to re-read Berlin and familiarize himself with the two conceptions of liberty. The point of the Hamilton Series is not to present a meaningful debate, the point is to present one side from a position of authority, sponsored by people with power. qed

Re: “Freeman Unseats Incumbent Knodell for Burlington City Council

Too funny... The Private Sector folks seriously think "compromise" is to acknowledge their way is the only way forward. Perhaps, the private sector will stay in it's lane now, and leave the governing to those who are concerned with all interests and not just the interests of an elite few...
