Re: “Data Dive: As Opioid Crisis Ramped Up, Pills Flowed Into Vermont by the Millions

And naysayers wonder how the problem became epic? Proof is in the pudding.

Re: “Soundbites: Thoughts on Rezoning in the South End

I would appreciate the possibility of larger acts coming to a new Higher Ground. We stopped going to the old venue, the DJ's, rehashed Dead wannabe bands, and millennial shows no longer appealed to us. We head to Tupelo, NH, Barre Opera House, or the Flynn. Higher Ground hasn't offered anything interesting of late to the rockin 50 year olds.

Re: “Priced for Scale: $8.5 Million Listing Could Limit Options for Burlington Cathedral

Priced for a build out? Come on, to repurpose this building will turn developers away based on a total price tag of 9 or 10M+. Where does the Diocese come up with their hypothetical projections based on as developed? Housing and Conservation can't touch that, tax credits options are ruled out based on a highly inflated appraisal for mixed use development. This building will sit based on unrealistic numbers.

Re: “Judge Sides With Sanders Aide in Gas Price-Fixing Suit

Planet, sarcasm here? It should not come as a surprise, when gas in NH is $.20 to $.30 a gallon less. We are in the northern regions but Vermonters have been gouged for a very long time. Just another reason folks are leaving Vermont for more affordable digs.

Re: “Bennington Rep Has an Outstanding Arrest Warrant in Illinois

Does a candidate have to disclose a previous criminal record? When applying for state and federal jobs you must, it would seem when running for office the same standard should apply. The public deserves to know. Substance abuse is difficult and I hope he is in a better place but leaving Illinois with an outstanding warrant is not kosher. If he is intentionally shadowing this failure to abide by the law he should step down.

Re: “Bill to Help Vermonters Recoup Medical Monitoring Costs Clears House Committee

$5 Million in infrastructure costs to the tax payers? Those costs should be also paid by the company who polluted. Realizing settlements are a give and take negotiation the company should have paid a higher price tag. Polluted wells mean polluted aquaifers so this is not necessarily confined to Bennington. It could take years to understand the impact of this.

Re: “Vermont House Passes Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban

Reps. Helm, Brennan and Canfield don't see the importance of scaling back use of plastic? I think asking another $.10 for a cup of coffee isn't going to tank a business. It's our responsibility to do better to protect the environment and if they don't support this bill it is an embarassment. Oh and for Mr. Brennan did you Green Up along the main roadways this weekend? We collected 6 large bags, half full of tossed out non biodegradable plastic containers, near a watershed where the local deer flourish.
