Re: “A Burst of Construction Is Forever Changing Winooski's Thoroughfares

I'm a Winooski homeowner on North Street and I'm on board with form based code!

This article, and the debate around the Mansion Street development, have left me very concerned about the future of this community. These two individuals are simply using historic preservation as a means to derail much needed development. Burlington's lengthly review processes have played a massive role in driving up prices there, and it would do the exact same thing here.

YIMBY's support creating housing for individuals across income backgrounds. The historic character of Winooski is built on being a place where people can find affordable housing. There is no point saving the buildings if we price out all of the residents. We need to start showing up at city meetings to send this message to elected officials.

Re: “Winooski's Historic Mansion Could Be Demolished

Ahhhhhh, that's some good NIMBY.

I get that it's sad to lose older buildings and communities should have protections for historically significant properties, but the housing is needed. Everyone agrees there isn't enough in Chittenden County. Adding 75 apts with 25 affordable would be great for Winooski. The reason this mansion was chopped in to apartments in the first place is because there isn't enough housing here. Tradition is important but it can't come at the expense of young workers who need a place to live.
