Roger, that's good to hear, but we were not given time to take a breath by our Mayor, council, and journalists. They presented us with what amounted to a personality cult and ignored legitimate questions that arose as discussed by NYT, Wash Post etc, especially Intl Liaison Program. I have yet to hear reason for the hasty bungling hustle to confirm in 6 days flat. This has made our new Chiefs job needlessly difficult through no fault of his own. It has also further disenfranchised the most vulnerable members of our community.
Ditto Mark Hughes comments above.
I would sincerely like to have full confidence in our new BPD Chief. So, squeezed between my several jobs, none of which include journalism, I googled del Pozo's name and several of his impressive job placements.
As the old saying goes, "Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas." We deserve to know how this remarkable individual managed to work in these notorious settings for his entire career and somehow rise above. We need to be sure he's taken a proper flea bath before we let him up on the couch.
City Hall on Monday night was packed with the most diverse representation of our community I have ever a seen in the "People's House", as the chair called it, without a trace of irony. Terry missed that story too.
I feel sorry for del Pozo and the humiliation visited on him by Miro's imperious groupthink. Miro, Jane, Council members, Media: You blew it. You really blew it. You pulled a hustle into a hasty confirmation without due process. You've lost our trust and confidence. Good luck winning it back.
Re: “Frustration Over Police Chief Search Prompts Calls for Change”
Citizen oversight is long overdue. City commissioners are currently appointed by the mayor and approved by the council--so not exactly proof against the same groupthink that led to this sheep-farm of a decision on our new chief. email [email protected] if you want to get on the email list.
