Re: “What I'm Watching: Solaris (2002)

"In dissing Soderberghs film, Lem snarkily remarks that his book was titled Solaris and not Love in Outer Space."

He has a point, I get that you consider brainy meditations on the nature of reality somewhat dull and navel-gazey but those were the themes that he wrote about and it's really not unreasonable to expect that someone adapting your work actually adapt your work, he was inspired to write the book for a reason and having someone come along and throw out the central themes to replace it with (or at least emphasize on) a love story which is probably one of the most common themes in cinema would irk any artist. There is nothing wrong with a love story in space but why create one under the guise of another piece of work?
