Re: “Work: Singer Ashley O'Brien's Audiences Span Cradle to Grave

I certainly dont want to come across as flip or disrespectful to Ms OBrien. Im sure her work as a church singer brings her great satisfaction knowing that her talent brings comfort to many people. However, there are scores of church musicians who specifically train to be church musicians. It is a true vocation/ministry - not a gig or performance. They dont get booked. Such training includes study in music, theology and pastoral studies. For these folks, their musical service (or calling) to the church is a true ministry not a gig or performance as this article often indicates. They serve at mass rather thando mass. She claims that sometimes she does multiple masses a week so she knows what she is getting into to. What does that mean? I fully believe that it was the authors intention to raise up Ms OBriens gifts but I feel that it cheapened the role of music in the church.
