Re: “Apartment Complexes Sprout in Suburban South Burlington

Makes sense for us to encourage LOTS of density in the greater Burlington area. We will have LOTS of climate refugees this century and we should ensure that we don't accommodate the influx by sprawling into habitat and working lands.

Re: “Special Interests Spent $5.4 Million Lobbying Vermont Lawmakers

The health of our air and water, fighting to curtail climate change, and working to curtail the effect of big money in our political system is not a SPECIAL INTEREST. It is the definition of the PUBLIC INTEREST. The title of this article is misleading and should be revised.

Full Disclosure: I am the Field Director for VPIRG and am proud to wake up everyday and work to mobilize out tens of thousands of members to speak out for the public interest.

Re: “Public Service Board Proposes Stricter Wind Regulations

This is really dumb. I grew up a few thousand feet from a highway and dealt with way higher decibels all day and night, punctuated with extremely high decibels from air brakes slowing the fossil fuel belching trucks that rulings like this basically ensure we will continue to suffer the consequences of.

This smacks of arrogance and privilege - while coastal cities and islands disappear far too many Vermonters want to complain about sound when they're really just concerned about their own aesthetic sensibilities more than the lives of living breathing humans.

Re: “Unlikely Allies Seek to Make Vermont's Milk the Cream of the Industry

Milk and cheese are baby cow fattening liquid. They are a luxury we pay an artificially low price for. Getting strong, verifiable standards on the books here in Vermont (as opposed to just "organic") and marketing that milk to co-ops and Whole Foods-type stores around the country would really help struggling farmers. Some conventional farmers won't be able to hack it in a legal environment that protects our lake, soil, and climate. That's life.

Re: “Tall Mall Looms Over Central District Council Race

Please stop referring to support for the redevelopment of that crappy old mall into a mixed use town center as supporting 'the mall.' It is precisely the opposite of that, and haven't heard any alternative vision from the antis...

Re: “Walters: Sanders' Spandex SmackDown

Nothing about what Bernie is doing on the national stage is 'politics as usual.' If he had been using the (stale and useless) national Democratic playbook, he would have been on stage purely as an apologist for a pretty crappy healthcare policy, the Affordable Care Act. Instead he used the opportunity he has to be in the national discourse to change the conversation. He understands that healthcare is not some commodity we must mandate people purchase - it is a fucking human right, plain and simple. And while we can continue to have private delivery of healthcare, public, single payer system is the only rational solution. Bernie believes we can turn this whole USA thing around and is using his position, as US senator and national figure to make that happen.

Re: “Caucus Conundrum: Will House Dems Fight Anew for Carbon Tax?

Proud that my Rep, Mary Sullivan, isn't willing to back down from embracing a smart solution because of election-season lies spread by Koch and company. In this era of fake news we need more honest analyses. 7D should take a real look at this proposal.
