Re: “Vermont Sues Eight Members of Sackler Family

"Attack on capitalism"?? Capitalism doesn't need protection, it's an easily corruptible system that requires regulation and control to avoid abuse by the wealthy.

They spend trillions advertising the evils of regulation and government. And millions of Americans buy their propaganda. The government was created because we used to live in poverty and misery without a powerful regulatory system. Proof: the middle ages.

Too many people are swayed by the anti-regulation propaganda of Australian billionaire Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, which has convinced millions of Americans to vote to give more power and money to the wealthy, trusting they'd spread it around to the rest of us. Newsflash: They don't.

Fox News anti-government propaganda, closing polling places, gerrymandering, have all helped transfer most of our wealth to the wealthy. Since Trump, we don't even tax their inheritances any more. Lucky Ivanka! Lucky Don Jr! All while they blame immigrants and poor people for taking jobs and money. Meanwhile today, many trillion-dollar corporations pay zero federal tax.

From 1940 to 1980 middle class income doubled. From 1980 to 2018, middle class income halved, adjusted for inflation. CEO's getting 50 million dollars while their workers get food stamps and beg for medical care and insulin on GoFundMe.

There is only one way to return America to the prosperity we enjoyed under the progressive era. Please vote. Millions of us coming together to vote have more power than any corrupt politician. The national Republican party wants to take away our freedom to our bodies, our ability to earn a decent living, and to peacefully raise our children in a healthy environment. You have the power to stop them, please use it.

Re: “'Doo-ty' Bound: Volunteers Scoop Dog Poop to Keep Lake Champlain Clean

To all the entitled, lazy people who think you're too special or important to pick up your dog's poop, we see you. I take pictures, I post them. I am far from being the most responsible hiker but the very least I do is pick up after my dog.

I love the parks, I love the trails, I love the lake. I cannot imagine leaving poop for other people to pick up. Shame on you and shame on your parents for raising you to be an enemy of our beautiful parks and trails.

Re: “Vermont Judge Issues No-Stalking Order Against GOP Operative Stuart Stevens

I would think Ms. Hinkson might be more frightened to be married to and raising a child with a serial sexual harasser, rather than conduct a campaign of revenge against a man whose girlfriend was victimized by this sleazy behavior. Everyone would benefit from therapy and learning how to deal with being co-dependent or attacked or stalked. What a horrible, sordid situation.

Re: “Adjutant General Candidates Pledge to Confront Sex Harassment in Vermont National Guard

Mr. Knight may be the right man for the job, but as evidence has shown it requires a woman to help reduce the criminal conduct that has been tolerated by so many men. Long past time for more women to be in leadership positions so the VT Guard isn't quite so lopsided and these men don't feel quite so insulated from having to behave like decent human beings around women.

Re: “One Year After Building Second Store, City Market Exceeds Goals

I am incredibly grateful for City Market, a remarkable asset to Burlington that contributes to a high quality of life in our city. It is the antithesis of South Burlingtons widely despised Healthy Living, a beacon of corporate greed and entitlement. Thanks to all City Market cheerful employees and its ethos of civic-minded community enhancement.

Re: “With a New Policy, Healthy Living Reads the Fine Print for You

Healthy Living does a huge amount of advertising with Seven Days (maybe even their largest advertiser?) and this article appears to strongly reflect that fact. Almost all of my friends shop at City Market, our neighbors universally avoid Healthy Living because competitive pricing, selection, and a happy vibe from employees is important to us.

I want Seven Days to maintain its profitability and thrive, they are good citizens of our community so I can forgive occasional lapses. I wish the store popularly known as Wealthy Living was as good a neighbor to their customers and employees. They are not.

Re: “Drain the Swamp? Scott Wades Into State Wetland Dispute

Let's see, if I'm forced to choose between ruining this guy's life or ruining our beautiful state's environment? Well, Vermont wins every single time. Builders and developers spend huge amounts of money to comply with permits. Sending the message if you build before we catch you then you get away with it? That sounds like a prescription for an onslaught of lawsuits against the state.

"Mr. Gorbachev...umm, Scott: TEAR DOWN THIS HOUSE."
