Re: “The Cannabis Catch-Up: You've Been Warned

Decades ago the City Paper in Washington DC did a story about a neighborhood that was once the deadliest open air crack markets but was now somehow a lot less deadlier over a two year period. Their only beef was the abundance of pot now sold by the kids. Seems these kids got tired of watching the wretched lives of crack addictions and violent turf wars and decided pot was better. Duh! Like this journalist never made the connection between the new abundance of pot and the lower murder rates... I stopped reading that paper that day.

Now we have a journalist that rather joke about public safety messages maybe getting through as maybe the possible cause of less deaths on our highways here in Vermont. Dude... maybe it's folks smoking more pot than drinking alcohol... making wiser choices... understanding when one is too high to drive... unlike one does when drunk.…

**OFF TOPIC** Taxing pot is insulting to us folks that lived through decades of draconian laws... many of us arrested, criminalized, demonized... lives destroyed. The laws were not changed because the State became enlightened... they were changed because people smoked pot anyways... and organized around medical marijuana (AIDS) & Hemp. We fought the good fight... won... now you want to control and tax. BESIDES, in Vermont, economic growth will explode just by allowing growing, smoking, sharing, and yes selling... just like I might sell you chickens or maple syrup off my property. If I make money I pay income taxes. Secondary businesses will flourish... tourism, hemp products, bong factories, and the like encouraged by a Vermont style homegrown solution to the economy, environment, and social justice.

Re: “Hot Lunch: Student-Run Restaurant Wows Diners in St. Johnsbury

Do these kids get paid for working... and if not does this not seem to be unfair competition to the for profit restaurants in the area?

Re: “The Cannabis Catch-Up: Study Finds More Medical Weed = Fewer Opioids

Duh. Less pot = more death and alcohol.

Anyone that lived through the last major national pot droughts of 1990 & 1991 can tell you that.

The bars banked and many a good friends OD'd those years.

Re: “The Cannabis Catch-Up: John Boehner Has 'Evolved,' Joins Weed Company

Pretty cynical... maybe he actually has evolved. Either way it should be celebrated as a win. Go Pot!

Re: “Legal Pot in Massachusetts Could Spark Legislative Action in Vermont

I am Galen Dively III, of Walden, and I am a candidate for the Caledonia-Orange Senate District with the Marijuana Party. Yes I am actually on the ballot. The bill last year died because potheads did not support it. Legalization is not about money. It's not about a competitive edge. It's about doing the right thing. Pot is a plant. People's lives have been financially and literally ruined because of our laws against growing, smoking, and sharing this plant. We need to repeal all pot laws and allow people to grow, use, and share any amount of this plant. Until the Feds make it legal forget anything else, but just doing this will create a huge savings to Vermont potheads and visitors can buy pot from a farmer with some eggs and steaks. The State does not need to tax potheads to drool at it potential at increasing overall revenue and tourism. Potheads braved draconian laws to get us to this point of actually legalizing pot. That pot culture should be honored. Beyond pot, our drug war has been an utter waste of resources and creates way more damage to our way of life than drug addiction alone. You can check out my platform at and If you are a voter in the Caledonia Senate District please consider making me at least your second choice. We can create real legalization and not some corporate take over of pot culture.
