Re: “Bye-Bye Bailey? UVM May Drop Library Namesake for Supporting Eugenics

We should dig the guy up and try him for his crimes. Or is the cultural revolution not there yet?

Looking forward to the struggle sessions.

Re: “Artist Weighs In on Burlington Mural Controversy

I hope this lame mural outlives every one of these annoying complainers.

Re: “Study Suggests Burlington's Union Station for Overnight Train Storage

"Carl Fowler, a board member of the Vermont Rail Advisory Committee but who spoke as a public citizen, was met with applause when he suggested that the best storage location for a train would be in Saint Albans."

And we'll make them pay for it, too!

"Rick Sharp, owner of Burlington Segways, said it was inconceivable to him that the state could not find a place to store a train in a railyard."

Why would someone assume he knows the ins and outs of business he has no involvement in? I've worked in the VTR's yard in Burlington and it's very small and usually full, especially during busier months. You can't just "find a place" for a train, even in a rail yard. They occupy real physical space, which is kinda the point of the article.

Re: “Officers Involved in Fatal Interstate 89 Shooting Won't Face Charges

The attorney general's office is playing word games. They call a semi automatic handgun a "MAC-10 style assault pistol" when it's being held by a suicidal man, and call an AR 15 a "semi automatic rifle" when it's being used by an officer to kill him.

I love this quote in particular:
"A reasonable person would have believed that Mr. Gregware presented an imminent risk of death or serious bodily injury to both themselves and others nearby."

Yeah, he might shoot himself and injure someone. Better grab my rifle that has a maximum range of 800 meters and pop off half a dozen rounds. I'm sure the ones that miss will turn into pixie dust and good intentions.

Can we fire this trigger happy moron yet?

Re: “Vermont Railway Extends Track Along the Burlington Bike Path

Lisa,

There's no money to be made letting perfectly burnable fuel sit around for years, in fact any time a loaded car is sitting idle it's hemorrhaging money. The cars aren't waiting for oil prices to climb higher, they're empty and waiting for when they'll be needed this winter to transport commodities like fuel oil or propane to transload facilities where they're loaded into trucks and delivered to people's homes. That's how we heat the state.

That's the story with the cars above the bikepath, in case anyone's wondering. They're empty fuel oil cars.

Man, writing all that almost put me to sleep. Did anyone make it to the end? I think I liked Lisa's rant better.

Re: “Vermont Lawmakers Pass Paid Family Leave, $15 Minimum Wage

Emily, the governor's veto is part of our democratic process. When he vetoes something he's using the "power" (-cracy) vested in him by "the people" (demo-) when they elected him. It's one of those checks and/or balances you might have read about in school, and helps prevent a runaway legislature.

Re: “Development Opponents Go Back to Court Over Burlington Mall

Oleander,

Just us Russian troll-bots hard at work. First we stole your election, now we'll steal the sun itself! Bask in shade Amerikanski, and despair!
