Some quick reading about the last time we tried this:

Re: “Vermont Lawmakers Consider Gun Magazine Capacity Limits

Magazine caps are a joke. Changing magazines takes less than a second. There wont be any difference between a shooting done with 10 round or 15 round magazines.

Detachable magazines are 100+ year old technology. There's no putting this genie back in the bottle, it's like trying to limit the societal impact of the wheel.

Re: “Walters: Scott Shifts Gun Stance Following Fair Haven Threat

What specific new laws from the gun control lobby's usual grab bag could have done any good here? He bought his shotgun from Dick's Sporting Goods which means he passed an NICS background check and shotguns are low capacity "sporting" weapons that wouldn't be effected by magazine restrictions or assault weapon bans.

Perhaps we need to look at the way information about psychiatric institutionalization is being reported. That should be disqualifying, but it doesn't seem to be getting to the FBI, who runs our background check system. There was another recent shooter that should have been disqualified from buying guns but the Air Force failed to report the necessary information to the FBI. The Virginia Tech shooter was another such case.

It appears to me that the gun control debate has gotten so partisan and dominated by interest groups that no one is willing to question the functionality of proposed legislation. Doing something that's functionally useless is worse than doing nothing because it will lull us into a false sense of security.

Re: “Library Board Pushes to Rename Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award

My grandparents told me about this eugenics project and how they were pretty scared of it being poorly educated rural French Canadians/possible Abenaki. One of them actually pretended to be Irish back in the day, but that also had something to do with facilitating business connections.

Hold on, I'll conduct a seance and see how offended I should be about this on their behalf.

Okay, I'm back. They said "Get off that damn computer, it's turning your brain into mush. Go play outside and stop bothering us"

Huh, wasn't expecting that. I guess growing up with dirt floors, ice boxes, and out houses puts these things into the proper perspective.

Seriously though, I'm unimpressed by these librarians. You wouldn't think iconoclasm would be in their wheelhouse. Another interesting link to history down the memory hole.

Nothing you quoted was inaccurate or stereotypical. Vermont is an extremely liberal state, and he was fired because his opinions were deemed unacceptable to express publicly. But I get it; if you gin up outrage you get to fight their outrage with your own. We all get to be red in the face and yell at each other, and maybe someone gets hit by a car.

It's all just lovely.

No, wait. Wrong word. Tiresome. Yeah, that's it. You're tiresome, John.

You can't be a socialist and also be for the working class.

I look forward to your dislikes.
