Master Plans
Before his untimely death in 2013, Bill Coperthwaite lived alone on a remote stretch of the northern Maine coast for 55 years. Eschewing the modern age for a life of simplicity and solitude, he immersed himself in homesteading, designing and building multistory, concentric yurts that garnered international attention. Peter Forbes and his wife, Helen Whybrow, capture their longtime friend’s devotion to intentional living and self-reliance in their book A Man Apart. Alternating chapters offer Forbes and Whybrow’s perspectives on the visionary thinker who redefined life off the grid. Coperthwaite’s pals Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem (pictured) honor him in song, with tunes from Violets Are Blue.
