1/28/18: A young tuba player took center stage Sunday at the Vermont Youth Orchestra's Winter Concert at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington. Malachi Witt shows off the uncommon range and versatility of the giant brass instrument, playing Edward Gregson's Tuba Concerto along with the top young musicians in the state.
We tagged along to a VYO rehearsal and a tuba lesson with a UVM expert to see Malachi preparing for his big day. During the concert, students performed a range of classical favorites including Strauss's The Blue Danube and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 - and Malachi's solo was a totally tubular.
Music: Edward Gregson, Tuba Concerto, III. Allegro giocoso
Johann Strauss Jr., The Blue Danube
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 5 in E Minor, Op. 64
