Political junkie. Deeply concerned about climate change and the future of Vermont's local communities, landscapes and economies. As a young Vermonter, I'm especially concerned with how our economy can evolve in order to retain young Vermonters - while also protecting what makes Vermont great. Currently not working in politics, but always looking for a way in.

Re: “Bitter on Twitter: Vermont Democratic Party Flames GOP

I wish the VT House Dems had such conviction and vociferousness when it came to confronting their Republican peers in the statehouse. The Vermont Dems are a pathetically spineless group that is more interested in being the majority than passing good policy. Just look at the otherwise "liberal" Vermonters who voted for Governor Scott because they were worried about the Dems having control of the legislature and the Governorship. And what did the Dems accomplish when they DID have total control for 6 years?

Clean Water Funding? Nope.
Real action on climate change? Nope.
Universal Healthcare? Ehhh they passed the law, but most Dems were happy when Shumlin killed it.
Gun safety? Nope.
Anything on the drug war? Nope.

The VT House Dems twitter is notably silent when it comes to addressing these issues. It may be fun and cathartic to call people names on Twitter...but it seems as if that is all the VT House Dems can do...

Re: “Fake Leahy Comment to FCC Decries Net Neutrality

@Scott - It does not make the comment less fake. It DOES however, illuminate the fact that a politicians words and their FEC filings often tell two different stories.

Take, for instance, TJ Donovan. He says the right things about opiate addiction and how he wants to take positive steps to reduce opiate dependence in Vermont. However, if you look at his campaign finance filings you'll see maximum gifts from PHRMA (the super PAC for companies including Purdue, the maker of oxycontin), Eli Lilly and Co, and the Retail Pharmaceutical Association. We all know these companies aren't on the right side of the opiate issue, so why does TJ accept their contributions?

Another instance, Phil Scott talks a decent game about combating climate change, but some of his top donors are Skip Vallee, VT Gas employees and other folks whose bread is buttered by the fossil fuel industry.

This is far afield from fake FCC comments, but this could be a great time to discuss the wide gap between a politician's statements and who they take money from.

Thank you SevenDays for not needlessly playing into the hysteria and lazy media narrative that these are Russian generated comments.

Re: “Statehouse Rink Resurrected After Scott Intervenes

I wish our Governor demonstrated similar gusto when it came to combating the continued inaction on climate change....besides talking about it's purported "economic benefits."

Re: “Leahy, Sanders Call for Franken to Resign Over Sexual Misconduct Claims

Heavy lifting for Leahy is grabbing as many earmarks as he can for Vermont. The ECHO center is cool I guess, but the F-35's can go ahead and fuck right off.

Re: “Burlington Progressives Endorse Carina Driscoll for Mayor

Oh boy - I can't wait for reactionary basement people to make this about Burlington College....oh wait.

If these keyboard warriors spent their time studying PILOT funds, TIF districts and other public private partnerships instead of following bread crumbs from Fox News maybe we'd see some more progress - and they'd be smarter for it!

Re: “Seven Days Sues City to Get Burlington Telecom Documents

If you don't think this will have an interesting conclusion...then you haven't been paying attention.
