Re: “Opinion: What Has Owen Labrie's Trial Accomplished?

I would like to add that the jury agrees with Owen's defense attorney that the young lady gave consent although she was only 15 which means Owen broke the law. I do not know what the rules are about minimum sentencing, but I hope that the Judge can not require jail time and not require Owen to report as a sex offender. I am 100% certain that Owen will never try and have sex with a minor again and will never have sex without consent of the other party. Please let Owen get on with his life from here!

Re: “Opinion: What Has Owen Labrie's Trial Accomplished?

I think it is likely the author described the circumstances perfectly and what would be a more appropriate way to resolve the matter for Owen and the young lady. I hope the Judge reads the article. Owen has already paid plenty from the negative publicity, not being able to continue his life and go to Harvard. If technically the Judge cannot dismiss the felony then hopefully he can not require jail time and not require Owen to report as sex offender. Having a felony conviction on his record as punishment way exceeds the crime or the harm done by him to the young lady. The legal process and publicity has done more harm to the young lady than Owen caused. Community service would be an appropriate sentence.
