Auntie Em, Auntie Em!

A weather alert from the National Weather Service in Waterbury: Vermont is under statewide tornado watch from 10:00 this morning until 6 this evening.  A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes.

The service also reports that severe thunderstorms, with large hail and wind gusts up to 70-miles-per-hour, could hit most areas of Northern Vermont today, from Rutland County to the New Hampshire border and north to the Canadian border.

As the service reminds us, flying debris and lightning can cause serious injury or death. So, if you see a storm approaching, run like hell.

By the way, the photo is of a storm near Mayfield, OK, on May 16, 1977, during the legendary "Seven Days of May," an intense, week-long barrage of twisters that raked Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.
