Onyx Ink — Now this is an upset. This year Onyx Ink, which opened in September 2018, came in as a surprise dark horse to end Yankee Tattoo’s 16-year lock on this category. The new tattoo studio is owned by Alisha Dykema and staffed entirely by women. In June, they held a special sale of feminist flash tattoos and raised $3,500 for the Pride Center of Vermont’s SafeSpace program to support LGBTQ survivors of sexual violence. Onyx’s Instagram feed is updated daily, featuring inked florals, pet portraits, the occasional three-headed llama and plenty of cool piercings.
