Sometimes airy to the point of sparseness, other times deeply dense and layered, the works of the longtime printmaker are playful and tactile. Garand, who teaches printmaking at Amherst College, blends techniques —woodcut, monotype, pochôir, spit-bite aquatint, lift-ground aquatint, and à la poupée — for richly textured biomorphic vignettes whose forms seem to fluctuate and float like pretty slide specimens.
