Re: “Two Brothers Tavern

One of the places we return to again and again
Two Brother offer great comfort and some interesting local food at a very fair price. My wife and I visit often, most recently Sunday prior to a walking tour of Middlebury history. We had a great lunch with a nice outside table. Caesar Salad with anchovies( if wanted) was crisp and fresh with just the right amount dressing. We have never been disappointed . They have a great local beer menu too. Enjoy! Food: 5 Ambiance: 4 Service: 5

Re: “Walters: Scott Slams Vermont Ethics Panel

When Scott sold his shares of the Dubois and made a loan from Dubois to himself, he just changed from direct ownership to major lender (maybe biggest lender to Dubois). Clearly he still has a $2,500,000 interest in Dubois financial success.

He was told this was a conflict at the time, that was publicized in the media. He ignored all that and did it anyway.

Now he whines and claims the Ethic board should have given hi special favor by discussing with him!! He wants special favor! That just show how ethically challenged he is.

The problem is not the Ethic Board, it is Scott.
Congratualtions to the Ethics Board for doing there job, raising this issue. I hope to hear more from them.

Re: “Walters: House Democrats' Budget Workaround Hits Heavy Water

What this shows is that that Scott and the Republican are NOT really serious about negotiation. They like the Shut down threat. Posturing is more important to them than finding the solution.

Most will call that at best grandstanding, more accurately irresponsible governing.

In the mean time Scott has done nothing about water quality...punting that to the future tax payers.
Done nothing for the economic development of Vermonts working poor!
Supports tax breaks to the wealthiest 50% of Vermonters.
Limited corporate responsibility of PFOA polluters at the expense of common Vermonters
Doing nothing on Vermont's employer retirement liability...punting that to the future taxpayers

Re: “Walters: Scott Address Long on Ideas, Short on Specifics

Scott wants more people and jobs in Vermont! Good idea...he ran on it last year. He has had a full year to work on it! What has he accomplished? Nothing!

His Public Service Board killed windmills with absurdly low noise requirements (Will these same noise requirement kill the F35 coming to the Vt Guard??) Lost jobs in both cases and well will be continuing to send hundreds of Millions of $$ out to state in import energy!

Why should we think he will accomplish more next year than this last? Empty promises!

Re: “In State of the State, Scott Calls for 'Bold' Campaign to Attract More Workers

I like US Veterans. I am one of them. BUT Giving them a tax break on their retirement and education benefits??
Let us remember MOST Vermonters First! Retired Veterans had a good job, are getting a REAL pension, and have medical benefits most Vermonters DO NOT have.
Let's do more for Vermonters who do not have it so good FIRST! Freeze their property taxes at what they were at 65. No increases. Let make sure they ALL some type of pension benefit. Let's make sure that they Medicare and Medicaid benefit are not compromised by Trump and fill in any holes.

When this is done I fully support Scott's idea for Veterans as long as all other Vermonters get the same benefits!

Re: “Public Service Board Proposes Stricter Wind Regulations

I think Adam has a valid point. If these new noise limits are proper, I think we should apply them to our highways and down town environments. We must think of our kids and their health as well as ours.

Surely we would not should not only protect a few from with these wind turbine standards, but ignore the much more common and there for widely detrimental noise from our highways and down towns.

Re: “House Democrats "Finding Religion" on Money in Politics

Paul,

In your zest to make a head line and and be a little snarky, you too....like the main stream media are missing the milestone Change that the Republican OUT OF STATE PAC has set. Influencing local legislator's races!

The out of state Republican State Leadership Committee is DIRECTLY engaging in Vermont's local legislative races. This is a Shamefull milestone that the Vermont Republican have sanctioned tacidly.

Yes there have been many business contribution to the Vermont democratic house campaign....you have taken the time to list them. Note they are limited to $2000 rule and most are in fact Vermont businesses, do business in Vermont, or represent Vermont workers.

If you were truly diligent you would come up with a similar list on the Vermont Republican side.

The Vermont Republicans have for the first time embraced encourage HUGE $$$(almost $300,000.00) from a totally OUT OF STATE pac to enter, outside of Vermont campaign law, providing funding suporting republican local legislators. This action will likely have to be countered on the Democratic side.....in essence damaging irreparably, the Vermont tradition of running for the house or senator with a few dollars and the help of some friends. No more...times have changed...The Republicans are bringing big money to the local Vermont races.

And the Republican talk about scary big government....when they cow tow to big out of state funding for local candidates.
