Re: “Fast, Cheap and Good? A Closer Look at the Vermont Yankee Deal

This is the old "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me" deal.

Vermonters got screwed when the PSB at the time allowed Entergy to form an LLC with the VY plant as the only asset. That slick little move was designed to shelter Entergy from liability. Entergy declared that they didn't own the plant and that it was owned by the LLC. We saw the result of this move when it came time to do repairs.

So now what is Entergy up to? They have a dead plant that this new, inexperienced company says it can decommission faster than Entergy (remember Entergy doesn't own the plant and has been counting on the stock market to increase the decommissioning fund that they never put a dime into.

There is still some question as to whether or not Entergy Corp. can be exonerated from liability for this plant with their tricky little LLC maneuver. Selling the LLC to yet another company would be a blessing in disguise for Entergy. They would have reaped huge profits from this plant and finally rid themselves of any/all liability.

That's what this shell game is all about. Avoiding responsibility and liability. We'd all feel a whole lot better if there was some language in this "new deal" that said if Northstar fails that the liability for cleaning up this radioactive mess resorts back to Entergy Corp.

Don't hold your breath.

Re: “Scott Vetoes Marijuana Legalization in Vermont

Our governor demonstrates that he's out of sync with the voters.

Re: “If at First You Don't Secede: Trump Could Revitalize Vermont Movement

With all due respect Naylor, Williams, et. Al. Are a little late to the party. In 1984, April 1st, I, along with a colleague, introduced a Resolution on the House floor that declared Vermont would secede from the union. Then Speaker, Ralph Wright, somewhat perplexed by the resolution, sent it off to Judiciary where it died a likely death. By lunchtime we had about 70 members approach us about signing onto the resolution. I suggested that they go back and re-read it...then look at the date.

It's a fun idea to talk about but it's not going anywhere....is it?

Re: “Brock Calls Zuckerman Untrustworthy in New Ads

I know both of these gentlemen personally and I must say that I'm surprised that Randy Brock would stoop to this level. I've known him to be a positive, formidable candidate. Taking this tact shows that he's more desperate than most previously thought. David Zuckerman is a very hardworking farmer who has sacrificed a great to serve his state.

Re: “Lisman Supporters to Lead Campaign for Vermont

OK, so Mr. Lisman dumps almost $1mil of his own money into this "non-partisan" organization not to raise his profile for a run for governor but to address issues. Then he steps down, runs for governor and gets whooped. Now he's walking away from the organization. The fact that he's walking away after getting beat and after saying he wasn't going to run for governor sort of makes it pretty clear that the impetuous for creating this group was to do exactly what Mr. Lisman has denied right along; allow him to run for governor. If that wasn't the reason then it would seem logical that he would remain involved in CFV.

Re: “Minter Gets to Talk Plenty as She Debates an Empty Chair

There's nothing that says you don't care about the voters more than not showing up at a debate. Sure there are always conditions that you don't like but you do not NOT show up. It allows your opponent to do just what Sue did; debate an empty chair. As a career politician I'm surprised that Phil allowed this to happen.

Re: “Lisman Gives Own Campaign for Governor $1.6 Million

Lest we forget Lisman also blew another million when he started Campaign for Vermont (which was nothing more than a self-funded campaign for him).
