Re: “The Parmelee Post: Civil Engineers Mystified by Presence of Human Life Within Winooski Traffic Circle

Thanks for this brilliant satire. Winooski has a chief engineer who repeatedly has shut down sidewalks on the bridge and elsewhere for the "safety" of pedestrians. These pedestrians are then forced to walk in traffic. Many engineers who otherwise do great work can lose sight of the purpose of their work while they focus on speedy throughput of traffic.

Re: “Scott Wants Local Officials to Defy Trump’s Immigration Order

This terrible executive order, which is opposed by most Republicans, would make many working Vermonters into criminals if they went to Montreal for the day and then tried to come back home to Vermont. Basically everyone opposes this except a few Trump partisans who are just trying to score political points at the expense of their fellow Vermonters.

Re: “Judge Criticizes Burlington Police Stop, Search of Black Man

Brandon del Pozo wrote a scholarly article in which he endorsed racial profiling as well as "Stop and Frisk" tactics. Since he strongly supported these tactics then and since he continues to defend these tactics even when contradicted by a judge I think we can conclude that Burlington has the wrong person in charge of our police department.

Re: “A Civilian Pilot Test-Drives the F-35

How can the author be so morally blind as to state that only four people would be at risk in this mission. He is talking about blowing up North Korea's largest nuclear plant next to a city of 4 million people. Later in the article he speculates that the risk could be removed entirely by using drones. He is writing about the thrill of warfare without considering the immense suffering and destruction involved. The closest the author comes to displaying a moral compass is when he mentions that some people say it might cost too much money.

Re: “Burlington's Top Cop, Brandon del Pozo, Aims to Rewrite Policing

I believe you forgot to mention that Brandon del Pozo wrote a scholarly paper enthusiastically supporting racial profiling by police. In that paper he also defended "Stop and Frisk" tactics. He has a long way to go before he earns the trust of our community. Here is the link to his paper….

Re: “In Burlington, Sunday Parking Could Cost You

Tiki makes a very good point. "Free parking" is paid for by everyone, even the people who don't own cars or seldom drive downtown. This is unfair to them and it contributes to the parking problems downtown. If we subsidize something it should be the bus system which serves everyone and actually contributes to solving the parking problem.

Re: “CEDO Director Peter Owens to Step Down Next Month

For the director of CEDO to be involved in such a dreadful eviction is a tremendous embarrassment to Burlington and to the Weinberger administration. This resignation sends the right message that this behavior is inappropriate for someone on the public payroll. I would encourage Seven Days to tell the story of Iris Canada rather than let Peter Owens portray her in the worst possible way. She didn't violate the terms of her agreement, he got greedy and abused his power. She deserves more of a voice in this story.
