Re: “Are the Rich Really Running From Vermont's 'Death Tax'?

Personally I know four "Vermont" millionaires, each has moved to primary residences in tax friendly states (AZ, CO, FL, TX) while "vacationing" here in Vermont, documenting their stay so they can prove they are here less than 183 days each year ! Each of these state have no inheritance or estate taxes AND low income tax rates or no income tax at all - surprised ?

"Baby, It's Cold Inside !"

Not a good theme song for a fancy new rental property !

Re: “Walters: Scott Doesn't Support Trump's Reelection

Of course it is never promising when your state executive cannot support his own party's standard bearer on the national stage AND has no viable alternate to suggest. Governor Scotts vote for Jim Douglas did not sway others to follow and only made HRC's success in Vermont more profound ! In 2020 will Governor Scott support Vermont's Senator Sanders over President Trump or just refrain from voting in the Presidential contest ? "Enquiring Minds Want to Know !"

Re: “WTF: What's Up With the Dead Wind Turbine in South Burlington?

Not mentioned in this article, nor by Mr. Blittersdorf, is the millions of dollars that would be required to restore the ridgeline sites to their original, pristine conditions - if that is even possible ! These is no beauty in these gigantic industrial behemoths blighting our mountain tops or countryside - regardless of whether they are spinning at 20 RPMs or "dead as a door nail !"

Re: “Walters: Scott Administration Explores Radical School System Reorg

Phil Hoff / Phil Scott it now appears there isn't a dime's worth of difference between them. Phil Hoff's 1964 "Big Idea" to transform Vermont's local schoolhouses into one statewide school system comprised of 14 regional school districts has morphed into a four district statewide school system controlled from Montpelier. Remember in 1964, the voters went to the polls and enacted a constitutional amendment to secure "local control" for the state's future in response to Hoff's attack on local governance.

Phil Hoff must be laughing from the grave as his idea that was roundly defeated in 1964 by conservative Republicans is no the faux Republican governor's big thing. No local control, no parental input beyond the "window dressing" of Parent School Committees, "which would be purely advisory in nature" and the Regional Boards would not have a (real) say in the administration of the education in their schools.

The fifty year educational experiment of "bigger is better" has resulted in exploding education costs and plummeting student proficiency - the thing Vermont's Legislators and State Administrators have proven is that "bigger is NOT better" it just creates a bigger mess.

This latest step toward the abyss should bring every true Vermonter to their feet demanding a return to real old-time local control and they may well be lead by the children being cheated out of their futures because of a crappy education.

Re: “Walters: Hallquist Leaps Forward in Fundraising

While I suspect that I will spend more than the $500 minimum before filing is required - before the next deadline (September 15) however my campaign is about issues not popularity !

I'm not big on asking folks for money, the election is basically an extended job interview and my job is to convince the voters that Jim Condos isn't doing the job that he's being paid to do AND that I will not only get the job done, I will significantly improve both the Election Division and Archives as well as continuing the IT integration that the SOS office has implemented in recent years !
