Re: “Crumbling Local Roads Fuel Talk of a Vermont Gas Tax Hike

STOP raising taxes on the working class!
Sorry Rep. McCormack but not all of us can afford a fuel efficient vehicle.

@Seven Days, why don't you break out where the current VT Fuel taxes go here in the state. 100% of the tax does not go to the DOT.

Why doesn't the state stop diverting the fuel tax to the general fund and put it toward the roads?

Re: “Minimal Disclosure: Lawmakers’ Financial Filings Reveal Little

Note to Seven Days,

Great article!

Also, did anyone take notice to how many were employed by the State of Vermont(including spouses) or by organizations that receive funding(grants etc) from the state?

Why doesn't Vermont have a "Hatch Act"?

There is a huge conflict of interest with state employees being state reps/senators on just the basis that they vote for their own budgets/salaries.
Vermont NEEDS to mirror the Hatch Act!

Re: “Parkland Students to Bring 'Glimmer of Hope' to Burlington

"A sucker is born every minute"

Capitalize on the victims.... "Fish-on!"
People do realize that only the NET profit of this "book tour" is actually going to the Parkland Victims.
Hogg, Gonzalez and Wind(and their publicist) get their cut before the "NET profit" which is 15% of the GROSS EACH!

That equates to only less than 3% of the gross going to the victims.

Soooooo, out of that $20 you bought a ticket for, only 60 cents...that's right! 60 Cents is going to the victim fund.

Re: “Letters to the Editor (10/3/18)

It might not say it in the US Constitution but it does in the Vermont Constitution, Article 42
Every person of the full age of eighteen years who is a citizen of the United States, having resided in this State for the period established by the General Assembly and who is of a quiet and peaceable behavior, and will take the following oath or affirmation, shall be entitled to all the privileges of a voter of this state"…

Re: “Up to Here in Deer: As Fewer Vermonters Hunt, the Growing Herd Is Becoming a Problem

Michael Hass,

How do you expect to get non-consumptives on the board? You can't get more general in description than the statutes is now, and with only 22 people applying in the last 15 years that fit none consumptive, 3 of which served on the board IDK how your idea is even going to work. "Can't pickem if they aint there."
And if so, what do expect the board to do?

Also, again, the board does not see the operation of the dept, unlike other states. The boards power is limited.

Re: “Up to Here in Deer: As Fewer Vermonters Hunt, the Growing Herd Is Becoming a Problem

Michael Haas,

I find your comment very uninformed. It seems you are just regurgitating POW/VWC ongoing lies.
The biggest is that the FW Board is not open to non-sportsmen and women.

FALSE- there have been non-hunters/trappers/FISHERMEN&WOMEN on the board, actually recently.
In fact state statute in regards to whom may serve on the board does not dictate that they have to hold a license or pursue those stated above activities.
Please show me where in state statute it dictates what you say about the board.
To save time, I have included the link to state statute that sets the criteria for being a member of the board.…

I have done pub-rec-reqs to the governor's office for lists of those that have applied to be on the FWB and FYI, not too many non-hunters/trappers/fishermen apply, about less than 2% in the last 15 years and only 5 people TOTAL applied for the last 2 seats that came vacant.

Here is a link for you to apply if you want too.…

Also, the board's power is limited and narrow to only game animals that the legislature allows them to manage. The board DOES NOT advise the Fish and Wildlife Department on the departments general operations nor does it dictate what can be hunted/fished or trapped.
Summed up, it really only can set limits and season lengths which was dictated by the legislature.

Re: “‘Such an Inspiration’: Hallquist Candidacy Resonates Beyond Vermont

"John Walters-Missing Target by a country mile" should be the title.
"Ed Larson, isn't Ed Larson". You missed by a mile, or I should say a County or 2. Read your citation for "Ed Larson".
