Re: “Burlington City Councilor Accuses Other Members of Racism

The councilors all make votes based on classism why is it so hard to believe theyd all vote based on internalized racism too? Coincidence none of them seem interested in people of color and marginalized voices having meaningful oversight of our police department while our police pull over and arrest black people at higher and higher rates? So few of them have publicly acknowledged that Black Lives Matter?

Re: “To Tip or Not to Tip, to Post or Not to Post? Monarch & the Milkweed Stirs Controversy

How about we just get rid of tipping and pay people a fair wage because tipping is classist and demeaning?

Re: “Burlington, South Burlington Voters Approve Big Bonds at Polls

Mayor Weinberger supported Wright, did not support Ali Dieng last year, and was willing to throw out a Democratic supermajority in the House, throw out higher minimum wage and paid family leave to promote his own agenda. Is Miro a socially liberal Democrat who believes in justice and helping the poor or is he just another center-right politician beholden to wealthy business and housing interests over working class Vermonters?

Re: “Running Unopposed, State's Attorney Sarah George Campaigns for Reform

Police Chief Brandon del Pozo, who also paints himself as a reformer...

Well said. He paints himself as a reformer, as long as he has all the control and power. Wont release body cam footage, wont let citizens hold police accountable through civilian oversight, has no problem arresting homeless folks who drink and urinate in public but turn a blind eye to wealthy college kids that do the same, seems okay evicting homeless people from public land.

A real Ivy League, 20%er reformer right there.

If hes the most Progressive Police Chief in America maybe its about time we rethink policing.

Re: “Uprooted: Burlington Farmers Market Seeks a New Home

When it comes to big developers the Mayor will spend countless hours of his and city staff time to make sure those developers are treated well - change zoning, sell city assets to them, etc.

When it comes to anyone who isnt rich and wealthy, whether it be local farmers, local social workers and teachers, low-income advocates, etc, they have to beg for the Mayor to even look their way.

Its as if Mayor Weinberger is first and foremost beholden to all those folks that give him thousands every election cycle over regular folks who dont own $1,000,000 homes...

Re: “Walters: Scott Slams Vermont Ethics Panel

@KnowYourAssumptions he sold it off yet still makes more in interest payments than most Vermonters make in a year working 40+ hours a week. Seems like if the business fails hes out $2.5 million + $70k interests a year so a reasonable person could easily assume hes still financially tied to the company, even if he sold it off. Turns out you cant sell off a property if you just are owed the same amount of money. Thats not a sale that just a way for Scott to make even more money than he was before he sold it.

All Scott did was sell his rights to run the company. He still owns 50% of the shares, with interest. Over the years that % may eventually reach zero, but until then hes an investor and has a financial stake and interest.

It can both be a politically timed issue AND be accurate. The two arent mutually exclusive.

Re: “Walters: Scott Slams Vermont Ethics Panel

Politicians and the wealthy live by a different set of rules than the rest of us and they never have a conflict. Ever. No matter who their friends are, whether they are developers on local zoning boards, whether they and their wealthy friends all benefit from new laws or tax breaks, somehow they are entirely free from human bias and psychology and are free to vote on whatever they want.

Good thing our god-like leaders are in charge - us regular, poor, mere mortals are incapable of being leaders in Vermont.
