Re: “Walters: Scott Slams Vermont Ethics Panel

@KnowYourAssumptions he sold it off yet still makes more in interest payments than most Vermonters make in a year working 40+ hours a week. Seems like if the business fails hes out $2.5 million + $70k interests a year so a reasonable person could easily assume hes still financially tied to the company, even if he sold it off. Turns out you cant sell off a property if you just are owed the same amount of money. Thats not a sale that just a way for Scott to make even more money than he was before he sold it.

All Scott did was sell his rights to run the company. He still owns 50% of the shares, with interest. Over the years that % may eventually reach zero, but until then hes an investor and has a financial stake and interest.

It can both be a politically timed issue AND be accurate. The two arent mutually exclusive.

Re: “Walters: Scott Slams Vermont Ethics Panel

Politicians and the wealthy live by a different set of rules than the rest of us and they never have a conflict. Ever. No matter who their friends are, whether they are developers on local zoning boards, whether they and their wealthy friends all benefit from new laws or tax breaks, somehow they are entirely free from human bias and psychology and are free to vote on whatever they want.

Good thing our god-like leaders are in charge - us regular, poor, mere mortals are incapable of being leaders in Vermont.

Re: “Mum on Money: Gubernatorial Candidates Sidestep Policy Specifics

Scott also said he'd continue to invest in downtowns and bring more refugees and immigrants to Vermont.

The governor's other major focus has been education spending.

On the campaign trail, he's repeated calls to cut costs in the K-12 school system and reinvest that money in early and higher education...

Its as if he has no idea about how schools work and how kids who come from traumatic backgrounds and/or dont speak English as a first language NEED EXTRA SUPPORT in the classroom.

Re: “'SNL' Skewers Vermont, Where 'the Leaves Change Colors But the People Never Do'

Not surprised about the several defensive comments.

There are *some* people of color in Burlington and surrounding counties, most of whom came here not by choice and to escape refugee camps. Very few are elected to public office or hired for prominent positions in the community/city departments. And if you go to Church Street or the Winooski Circ, outside of a handful of restaurants youd have no idea that Vermont was anything but 99% white. We are inclusive in the sense that most of us wont be your neighbor but will brag about letting you live in our communities; skin-deep diversity.

Wake up yall. Vermont is a paradise if youre white and wealthy and kind of mediocre for everyone else. But Im sure our high POC prison population and high levels of over-policing POC is entirely a coincidence.

Re: “Walters: Planned Parenthood Won't Endorse in Gubernatorial Race

Oh so being against paid family leave, $15 minimum wage, universal medical care, all of which effect women, have no basis in their decision?

Very disappointing to see PPNNE thinks that policies that make it tough for low income women to have children, to afford giving birth and raising children, having access reproductive healthcare, are worth staying neutral over.

Re: “Burlington Voters Will Consider $100 Million in School, Wastewater Bonds

If taxation was progressive, these bond proposals wouldnt unfairly hit renters hardest.

Re: “Farrell Suspends Campaign Manager Over Ingram DUI Video

I just want to know why Mayor Weinberger hand-picked Paco as his representative on the Community Development and Block Grant committe, which give out money to organizations that fight addiction, and how his unfortunate bias will affect his perspective of marginalized and homeless residents.
