George Dawes Green spent long nights swapping stories with friends on a porch in his native Georgia. Inspired by the insects swarming around the porch light, the narrators dubbed themselves “the Moths.” When Green relocated to New York City, he took the name with him and founded the Moth, a nonprofit group committed to the art of telling true stories, live. Far from the modest front-porch gatherings of its origin, the organization now encompasses a weekly podcast, a national public radio show, and performances across the United States and beyond. Ten winning raconteurs from past competitions approach the mic for the Burlington Moth GrandSLAM with tales on the theme “Occasional Magic.”
