Carmen Souza Show Canceled

This week's calendar section features a spotlight of singer-songwriter Carmen Souza, who was scheduled to perform at Burlington's FlynnSpace this Friday, January 14. According to a recent announcement on flynntix.org, though, "Carmen Souza's performance has been cancelled due to visa issues. We are contacting ticket holders and apologize for the cancellation."

Bummer.

Well, that makes one cancellation that's not due to today's snowstorm. Burlington's Fletcher Free Library just sent word that it's closing at 7 p.m. tonight (rather than 9 p.m.) and calling off all evening programs due to the weather, and tonight's Italian Converation Group at St. Michael's College has been canceled. It'd be best to call ahead on other events taking place today before you brave the blizzard.

From bustling Church Street to the highly trafficked waterfront, Burlington is anything but a ghost town — unless Thea Lewis is leading your way. The actor, author and paranormal historian is also Vermont's queen of Halloween, and, in the weeks leading up to that haunted holiday, she presides over three walking tours rife with local history and mystery. The Darkness Falls Tour explores the spooky spirits of Burlington's downtown; the Wicked Waterfront Tour dives into shipwrecks, lake monsters and shoreline mischief; and the Cemetery Tour travels to the city's most ghoulish gravestones. These tales are spine-tingling but typically appropriate for ages 9 and up.
