Re: “Scott Unveils Proposal to Hold Down Taxes, Cut School Costs

Yet again, our governor fails at fiscal responsibility by kicking the can down the road to pay for programs. In my community, our school boards are responsive to cost cutting measures. The act 46 merger has been adopted and takes money to implement well for future savings. There have been high numbers of RIFs which are hard. The governor needs to come to the table and make some hard decisions to cut costs, not make lofty fiscally irresponsible mandates if he really wants to reduce taxes.

Re: “Walters: Scott Proposes One-Time Money to Patch Education Fund

It seems hypocritical to me to veto the budget last year forcing the one time spending and then blame the legislature. Scott hopes that by consistently failing to outline plans and get involved in policy making, unpopular decisions won't touch him. I guess that's politics! This is the result of kick the can tax cuts. We have to pay somethime and I think Vermonters want greater fiscal responsibility.

Re: “The Octopus Defense: Lawmakers Still Seeking Clarity on Waterways Cleanup

Thank you for your continued coverage of our governor failing to be a leader on the majority of important issues before him this session and in particular failing to put his funding sources where our policies are. I commend him for taking an uncharacteristic stand on gun legislation, but that should not overshadow his continued lack of leadership on other issues he claims are priorities for the state. Clean environment and education are why Vermont is great.

Re: “As Scott Signs Historic Vermont Gun Laws, Protesters Call Him a ‘Traitor’

I am confused by the choices for imagery in this article. I haven't viewed the slide show. If there were really more supporters at the event as there are in this state, it seems misleading to focus so many images on opponents.

Re: “Treading Water: Vermont's Pols Are Going Nowhere Fast on Clean Lakes

I agree with the sentiments above and am also frustrated with our governor. If we do nothing, the quality of our waterways will get worse. I agree, it's hard to clean up our environment in general, but it's important. Governor Scott's "no new taxes" initiative just means that along with cleanup efforts he's kicking the can down the road on financing what we're doing now so that we'll be paying for a larger clean up while also paying down bonds.

Re: “VT All-Day Sacred Harp Singing [304]

Eva! Here is a long overdue thank you for this well-told story. You hit the nail on the head about this tradition in Vermont. We use this as a regular example when we go to explain the music to folks who haven't experienced it before. You are amazing.
