Kids City will soon shut its doors. The independent children's department store, which opened in South Burlington three years ago, will close by mid-June, general manager Tina Benoit said. Owner Steve Levy cites "unforeseen circumstances" for the decision. His other store, Toy City in Keene, N.H., will remain open, he said, and he has no plans for another store in the Burlington area. Benoit remains optimistic. She's been with the business since it opened as Babyland in the mid-1980s and as it changed owners and names. It was Kids Town for 22 years prior to being Kids City. "There has always been — and continues to be — a strong need and desire for a store that offers both the products and the level of customer service that we are known for," she said. She considers this a bump in the road. "I'm hoping to do something else in this market in this area."
