Re: “Should We Stay Married for the Kids?

We know couples who faced this same situation and committed to getting help from pastors, family therapists, and other pros; those couples could not be happier today. Mary Cotton hit the nail on the head with her comments. I don't know why this needs a one sided answer when other letter writers get so many options for seemingly trivial issues. Perhaps a checklist is in order for the writer - did I give at least two or three options and consider the alternatives. Staying together for the sake of children is a bad decision, but falling back in love and rekindling the spark that brought you together in the first place is magical.

Re: “Shumlin, Federal Receiver: Jay Peak Open for Business

In for a penny, in for a pound... If I had the resources and had invested $500k towards becoming a green card holder, I would do all I could not to have to start again- especially where jobs have truly been created. Go with the devil you know...

Re: “In Stealth Move, Senate Sends Pot Legalization Back to House

A 25% tax on marijuana seems awfully low as a starting point - cigarettes are $3.08 per pack plus sales tax on top of the total price. This places the total tax on an $8 pack of smokes at 72.36% (8.48 post sales tax over 4.92 cost pre-excise tax). No wonder the electronic cigarette tax was proposed at 92%...why 25% here?

Re: “CCTA Drivers Ready New Offer, HowardCenter Clients Miss Appointments

Easy strike solution - have the union write the schedule for the drivers. The union cannot complain about what it controls. I have written many schedules that require part time employees and split shifts in a retail environment. I realize that is much different that driving a bus with lives in your hands, however the analogy is similar. If you need 40 people on staff for peak hours twice a day and 20 at all other times, it is very difficult to manage the scheduling. An alternate solution is to allow people to sign up for set shifts. Once you try it, you will see it is not so easy.

Good luck to both sides as you work to resolve this dispute.
