It's no secret that newsrooms around the country are in trouble. But how many readers, I wonder, have seen the inside of a struggling one?
Funny I should ask myself that rhetorical question. Just now, I came across an interesting slideshow by Martin Gee, a San Jose Mercury News designer who took photos of his newsroom after a round of layoffs. The slideshow comes to you courtesy of the folks at Mother Jones magazine.
This photo is titled, "Hallway Desk Cleared Off." "A guy who writes an antiques column used to sit there," Gee says. "He was like the heart of the Mercury News."
