Afro-pop singer-songwriter Daby Touré blends traditional African influences and modern pop into a soulful hybrid. Originally from Mauritania, Touré hit the big time after a chance meeting with the legendary Peter Gabriel. After opening for him on tour, Touré released several albums on Gabriel’s Real World Records. He now is on the Vermont-based world-music label Cumbancha. Our sources there inform us that Touré recently recorded some tracks with Phish bassist Mike Gordon — though it’s unclear when those tracks will appear. Fingers crossed for a 2017 release. Catch Daby Touré on Saturday, February 4, at Light Club Lamp Shop in Burlington.
