Re: “Assigned Seats: Vermont Lawmakers Line Up for Leadership Roles

Thanks Alicia for the great reporting at Seven Days, Vtdigger and on Vermont this Week. You are an old school journalist. When I took some journalism classes in college, one professor I had used to quote the famous lines that Sgt Friday used on Dragnet, "Just the facts Ma'am." That made sense to me. check the facts. Then he would says check the facts then check them again twice and again three times. After that, he said check them again. The first time he told us that, he said do some research on the show. So I went to the library (long before computers) . Well it turns out that old Joe never said that on the show. It turns out that when Dragnet was a radio series in the 50's, satarist Stan Freeberg invented the phrase when he recorded a record called "St. George and the Dragonet" that lampooned the show. Joe used similar words on the show, but never that exact phrase. I often think of the professor when I read some of the garbage that some so called journalists write that is more opinion and commentary than facts. Keep on checking those facts Alicia. All the best

Re: “Arkansas Man Gets Probation for Scamming Developer Don Sinex

So Chittenden County State"s Attorney, Susan Hardin, says that the employees didn't receive their bonus because of the fraud. The State's Attorneys job is to prosecute the defendant, and to get the most severe punishment for the crime as possible if the defendant is found guilty This ridiculous statement has no relavance to the charges made. That information had to have come from the plaintiff Just because Don Sinex said it, it doesn't make it so.

Re: “Safe Injection Sites? Medical Professionals, Law Enforcement Weigh In

Maybe they could open up a facility for the chronic wife beaters so they pound up their wife in a safe place. This way they would be supervised so they wouldn't be able to beat the wife to death. After all, chronic wife beating is an illness isn't it.

Re: “Vermont Senate Votes to Increase the Legal Age for Gun Buyers to 21

Just for everyones info-the AR in the gun named AR-15 stands Armalite Rifle, not assault rifle. Armalite is the company that developed the rifle in the 1950's.

Re: “Universal Background Checks Clear Vermont Senate

I haven't heard anything from the legislature about what the funding source is going to be to enforce this law. It probably would only cost about $ 100 billion or so to post law enforcement In each household in the state that has guns. I am a hunter and own 5 guns and shotguns. I am more than willing to do anything that could stop even one of these tragedies. What I don't understand is the legislature passing any bill for anything that does not include a funding source for enforcement. In my opinion, this law would do nothing to prevent tragedies from happening. The people who do things are not known to be law abiding citizens.
