An amazingly beautiful place! Everything is very well thought out. Living in style!
OUTRAGED that Alex Carillo is still being held, without bond! Married to a U.S. citizen, with young child.... Good God, people, where's the sense in this??
I have gladly paid such a fee in the past when traveling, most recently in St. Lucia, where the charge was about $2.50 US per day. With our hotel bill we were presented with a letter from the prime minister thanking us for visiting and explaining that the fee is used for community development and low-income housing. Frankly I felt glad knowing that our visit helped in that effort even in a very small way, and it actually increases the likelihood that I will return there if I have another opportunity. I think presenting a similar letter to Vermont hotel guests upon check-in or check-out would be well-received.
Thanks for this great, in-depth piece, Ken. This answers many questions I've had about this group and performance -- especially the in-your-face, over-the-top and EVERYWHERE marketing. I am so sick of seeing these ads everywhere I turn!
I will happily pay this to help clean up our lake. However, I'd prefer no increase in registration fee and instead advocate a $2 or more fee per night in hotels, half to go to affordable housing and the other half for the lake. We spent a week in the Caribbean (St Lucia) in December and gladly paid a $5+ fee per night to support community development on the island. It just seemed SO RIGHT to ask tourists to do that.
Thumbs up, Seven Days.
Another great column, Paul. You've been terrific in that role. Good luck in your new sphere -- plenty to cover in the priority areas you cite.
