It can be confusing, and perhaps some more signage would help. The accident happened a few hundred yards from the bridge, and I doubt the direction of the bridge would have prevented it. More guardrails would be a good thing, along with lowered speed limits and signage. But since it is entering a village from the west, and a series of tight curves to the east, slower speeds and the usual caution when crossing a bridge (which by now every experienced driver should know usually freeze before the other road surfaces) are all that's needed. The bulk of the responsibility for accidents falls on individual drivers.
