Re: “'Energizer Bunny': As He Campaigns for Reelection, Sanders Preps for a Second Presidential Run

When Bernie first ran successfully for Congress in 1990 the nay-sayers told us that he would have no influence in the House and that Vermont would lose political influence nationally. THEY WERE WRONG!

When Bernie ran successfully for the Senate in 2006 the nay-sayers told us that he would have no influence in the Senate and that Vermont would lose political influence nationally. THEY WERE WRONG!

When Bernie first ran for President in 2016 the nay-sayers told us that he would have no influence on national politics. THEY WERE WRONG!

The minimum wage and family leave positions that Bernie put forward during his presidential run are now mainstream Democratic Party policy positions and supported by a majority of the American voting population, Republican attempts to abolish medical insurance protections for pre-existing conditions and to reinstitute lifetime medical caps for an illness threaten every Vermont family with medical bankruptcy. When Bernie wins the election in 2018 Vermont will have more political influence than this state has ever had and it can only grow as we move toward 2020. Vermont values will drive the 2020 presidential election, no matter who runs, and we should all be proud of that! THEY WERE WRONG!

The Republicans said that Vermonters have no political influence nationally. THEY WERE WRONG!

Re: “GOP County Chair Deletes Tweet That Said Kavanaugh Accuser 'Was Having a Sexual Fantasy'

Why is it, one wonders, that over 90% of Twitter hijackings happen to right-wing Republicans who drink a lot of alcohol?

Re: “Walters: Corporate Contributions Ban Has a Tough Day

It's all pretty simple. Limit political donations to registered Vermont voters and set a contribution limit per registered voter. If Vermont did that it would have the cleanest, most honest and fair statewide voting system in the country. Unfortunately, few, if any, politicians would have the courage to support such a simple and straight-forward concept.

Re: “Walters: Scott Proposes One-Time Money to Patch Education Fund

Scott's budget fantasies seem to come increasingly out of Trumpian economics. "Don't worry, Everything will be good someday, just trust me"!

Re: “Walters: Hallquist Readies Democratic Run for Governor of Vermont

Having seen the transformation at VEC and how you managed it I can only say that Vermont would be extremely fortunate to have you as it's Governor, Christine.

Re: “Scott Met With Private Prison Lobbyists Prior to Pitching Plan

Vermont State Government has, traditionally, been among the most straightforward and honest in the United States but that does not exempt us from being ever vigilant about corruption from creeping in, or from forever being on guard against evil and self-interested organizations putting their wants ahead of the needs of the Vermont People. This prison plan stinks of corruption. If we build it we must fill it, and why is Vermont considering also building 175 cells for the Feds? Possibly the most Anti-Vermont policy ever floated by any administration in our history.

Re: “Media Note: Top Free Press Editor Sparks Outrage on Twitter

Forty years ago we had REAL Vermont Winters. Forty years ago we had a REAL Burlington Free Press that had earned the respect of all Vermonters. I never expected to see -40 again, I was wrong. I never expect to see a BFP I can respect again, not so long as the chain insists on parachuting in right-wing editorial staff that has no respect for the community they purport to "serve". I honestly don"t know anyone who pays any attention to what they say anymore.
