Re: “Burlington Town Center Project Gets the Green Light

At least the building isn't as disgustingly ugly as was first proposed. It's merely moderately, unimaginatively ugly. If the City is truly giving Sinex incentivizing tax credits, why not find some money, cut some deal, so that the small businesses affected by the construction will get a stipend for the losses they will incur through no fault of their own. I know these businesses must be paying a premium for the Church Street address. SMALL, LOCAL businesses only - not the chain stores that can spread the loss through their megacorporations.

Re: “House Education Bill Proposes Larger School Districts

Adjustments to the current system are necessary - true. However, I do not believe your assertion of 9/1 ratio is correct. Even if the ratio is 11/1 or 13/1 - understand this includes many more (occasionally state or federally mandated) highly trained professionals helping the student than just the single classroom teacher alone. But whether there are 25 or 11 students in a classroom, the heating bill knows no difference. Revenue is distributed to the school district based on the average number of pupils who attend on a daily basis. BUDGETS ( not expenditures) have some leeway in allowing for the numbers of students to fluctuate. All teacher/administrator/support staff pay is negotiated every year by your duly elected school board members with the NEA. Attend meetings and volunteer to be on a committee if you want change. Vermont has some of the highest achieving students in the country, and indeed, in the world.
