Re: “Vermont Senate Backs 24-Hour Waiting Period for Gun Sales

Rates of suicides have doubled since the use of technology.
CDC Statistics, VTSPC, VTDOH. (firearms #1 over mva's).

Thank you supporter of VTSPC & MADD

Re: “Montpeculiar: Legislators Pour Over Vermont's Happy Hour Ban

Colorado DOT

Before celebrating happy hour, would it be possible to have a law in place which would accurately be able test for substance use.

Colorado DOT is working on 5 nanograms, breathalyzer do not show THC, DNA testing can be refused and sometimes will show false positive results. They have also seen a rise in the number of mva's since legalization and have stricter DUI laws.

Re: “Bill to Create Waiting Period for Gun Sales Advances in Senate

In reading the comments above:

What happened to empathy? Most of the comments above are regarding infringement of rights.
For those family's who have lost a loved one from a suicide or to other random acts of violence,
much empathy to you,

More needs to be done, this is a good start with the 24 hour waiting period.
I am not trying to offend any gun right owners, however more needs to be done keep firearms out of arms reach. Studies have been done, in some instances children were not able to identify a toy gun from a real one.

Furthermore, studies have shown that since the use of the internet, the numbers of suicides have increased. Ask any teenager, they can tell you the impacts of social media, they see if everyday.
Have you seen or heard what is being viewed?
We can not block everything they see or hear on the internet or news.

It is my opinion, the more that these random acts of violence/suicides are advertised (sales/ratings), one could only speculate an increase. Can more be done to help prevent this?

Re: “Media Note: VTDigger Scores a Small Win on EB-5 Documents

Perhaps the new owner(s) of Jay Peak will be able to appreciate the spectacular view of the Coventry landfill; who knows maybe if the wind is blowing in the right direction, they could even take in some breaths of fresh mountain air.

Re: “Lawmakers Want Reforms, Not New Prisons, to Bring Out-of-State Inmates Home

Compassionate Release was introduced in 1984, the Sentencing Reform Act, a federal program which has existed for decades (rarely used).

Ref: Time for Compassionate Release Truthout 1/23/2019
New State-by-State Report Records Compassionate Release 6/27/2018

Life without parole LWOP has increased 22% since 2008.
2.1 million in the US, 180,000 federal, 704,500 local jails.

49 States offer compassionate release, only 3 states (Texas, Utah & Louisiana freed more than a dozen under the program in 2015), Capital punishment is legal in 30 states. In Wisconsin - Class A/B felonies w/the maximum sentence of 60 years do not qualify. In Iowa no specific law/regulations. Illinois & Michigan have the program in place but no rules in place on the implementation of.

Only 13 States are required by law to keep track of and report compassionate release statistics, very few making that information available.

I believe in the sixth commandment however - against the compassionate release.

Re: “Opioid Deaths Rise in Vermont but Plummet in Chittenden County

Thank you Katie Jickling. Are there statistics available that would show the number of homicides that have occurred which were drug related? Recently in the NEK there have been at least two. It would interesting to see if these numbers have decreased or increased. Also if the number of thefts/robberies have seen an increase or decrease?

Four year term, worst idea ever.

How 'bout those Yankees.
