Re: “Vermont Lawmakers Question Untreated Inmates and Unspent Money

"Appalling" I think the correct language should be "Baffled"

VT Digger has done amazing job reporting the EB-5 case, pls keep researching, may wonder about others who appear to always be on the sideline.

If Quiro's is banned from conducting business in this state, how is it even possible that Stenger still has access to conduct business/employment and is still on these properties premises? Not to mention the use of a company vehicle? Does he get reimbursed for mileage and expense account as well?

My opinion he should be banned as well.

Someone please shut down EB-5 now.

Re: “Vermont Inmates Moving to CoreCivic Prison in Mississippi

New York Time: 4/3/2018 Analysis by the Sentencing Project since the year 2000; the number of people housed in private "profit" operated prisons in the Nation has increased by 45%.

Several States including Michigan & Utah have stopped using private "profit" prisons.

Forbes: American Criminal Justice System 8/17/2018
Forbes: The First Step in Prison Reform Should be Real Reform 5/28/2018

If we can afford to contract out fellow Vermonters' to a "profit" facilities; it would be less expensive and
feasible to build a facility in state having adequate capacity for housing/rehabilitation. The winter months are approaching; it's not too late to put a request out to construction companies for bids.

Innocent until proven otherwise; serve the time where the crime was committed.

How many Vermonters' are currently serving time for felonies/crimes out of state in a "profit" facilities?

How many Vermonters' are taking up beds for misdemeanors?

What has already been spent on contracts, including the labor involved w/the transportation costs?

Is this information not public knowledge?

Re: “Vermont Inmates Moving to CoreCivic Prison in Mississippi

The ACLU is right in opposing the move of prisoners' to Mississippi; which will place the inmates even further away both in distance and from their families/lawyers/physicians. They deserve to serve their time for crimes committed however, not to be that far away from their families. It's my opinion, where the crime was committed is where the time should be served.

Per the Centre Daily Times (9/19/2018): VT will pay $71.00 per inmate in October 2018; a total of 228 inmates to be moved for a grand total of $16,188.00. The contract fee for the 2nd year would increase to $72.00. In Mississippi, they have the capacity of 350 beds. For the Fiscal Year ending 2017 our Instate/Inhouse cost was $183.00.

How does the DOC plan move/relocate those already housed?
I would be curious to know how much this will cost to move them?

They supposedly will receive access to phones, attorneys and health care w/no copays.

For that price will they be getting free tablets? I have read some prisons in Mississippi have banned access to books, which is wrong. Vermonters' don't belong in Mississippi.

Re: “GOP Officials Attack Sen. Ingram Over Drunk Driving Arrest

The harshness and penalties under Vermont DUI law "DEPENDENT" on previous infractions.
Including jail time, fines and suspension with offenses.

First Offense: Up to 2 years in prison, Up to $750.00 fine and 90 day driver license suspension.
Very fortunate. Lost a friend to a drunk driver years ago.

Alcohol is an addition, a disease. Different than opiates but still an addiction..

Wondering how testing for sobriety will be performed for those suspected of DUI w/breath/saliva testing (substance).

Re: “Vermont Sues OxyContin Maker for Its Role in the Opiate Crisis

How many suits are now currently pending? How are these lawsuits being paid for and by whom?
My opinion; seriously why would any new businesses want to move and/or relocate to a state that seems suit happy.

So much for the growing economy, with the exception of Vail, who has no problem buying into our greatest marketable industries. Any guesses as to who might be looking into Jay & Burke next?

Opiate crisis: Not new news - What do the Physicians receive for payment/reimbursements when they prescribe this medication to patients? As it's been reported as an addictive medicine; why not try an alternative prescription that would be less likely to become habit forming? Are prescriptions still being written now? Even as this article was published today? If so, how & why would anyone in the medical field continue to prescribe to anyone?

Regarding EB-5 it's my opinion, this needs to be shut down now. No winding down slowly, it should have been shutdown back in 2016 when dockets/files were being seized, no red flags there. Regarding those who have not received their "green cards", not our problem. Take care of the people who reside here first. When this case is settled, someone should write a book or movie about it.

Re: “A Predictable Outcome: Scott and Hallquist Win Their Primaries

Many Congratulations to Christine Hallquist, Cameron Russell & Staff!!!!!

I can't speak for everyone in the NEK, however, I do know that people who live here and in other rural areas as well, sometimes feel as though we are forgotten about in Montpelier due to the demographics. All the more reasons why fiber optic is needed to further advance & grow the economy, there is hope.

In my book it means alot when someone who is running for Governor, takes the time to visit and meet the people in the communities and listens to the residents and their concerns. I value your leadership skills, business knowledge and look forward to November.
