Re: “Movie Review: Biting Satire 'War Machine' Revisits the Conflict in Afghanistan

"This is a movie with a most unusual mission ... to rewrite a recent chapter in American history and to repair the reputation of a most unusual man."

Whose reputation? McChrystal or Michael Hastings? In life, Hastings was trash-talked by the Establishment press. In death, the NYT even took a swipe at him in their obituary! (see the 2013 Feral Firefighter post "More Lies Borne Out by Facts, If not the Truth"). As a former Army Ranger, I admire many of McChrystal's qualities. But, he was involved in the whitewash of Pat Tillman's friendly-fire death and his Afghan COIN was folly that led to the useless death of thousands (see the Feral Firefighter post "Something to Die For"). Now, McChrystal's doing fine on the speaker's circuit. Unfortunately, "War Machine" doesn't repair Hasting's reputation. But, I hope this movie does leads people to read Hastings great book "The Operators" to get the full story.
