I live 100 miles from Rutland. I know a few people who live there. I've been following this issue in the press and social media, like everyone else. Here is what I see: some real concerns. Some unanswered questions. Some fear, founded and unfounded. Political posturing. Some pretty crude comments about other cultures. State and local government have not helped themselves by sometimes branding responses to their resettlement decisions as bigoted and baseless. The VT Health Dept., in particular, treated honest, straightforward questions about latent TB in refugees like, well, the Plague.
