Re: “Burlington High School Guidance Director Has His Say at Hearing

It seems to me this is the missing piece from this story. This poor guy's life is ruined because of overreach on the part of BSD Administration. Did he do a bad job? Yes. Would he (and BHS students) have ended up in this position if the BSD Administration had hired a qualified candidate? No.
I just dont see it that way: if the guy was in too deep as implied above, he had a professional responsibility to quit or seek reassignment, or better yet refuse the position and insist on being considered for the one he applied to. Yes, it was a bad hire, and he was coddled under the NEA Union system, but, the testimony and published stories paint this guy as one whos own ego, personality, anger, and inability to get along with others, as the reason others working under him with much experience and glowing reviews had to quit as conditions became intolerable, and same reasons students did not want to work with him.
Those who hired him are at fault (buck stops here), but also the guy needs to be held accountable for his own bad professional behavior -both good lessons for the students.

Re: “In Suburban South Burlington, a Holdout Farmer Plans to Expand

The Chittenden and Auclair families are lucky to have inheirieted what has become massively valuable land over the last 30 years. makes for a sweet retirement and fun $, like a lottery win - nice! Reminds me of the Hills family in Bristol being left most of Taft Corners in Williston - what a nice gift from grandparents!

Re: “Vermonter Writes for Russian News Website With Shady Ties

Absolutely a link between Marxism and Russian/Chinese communism...and even North Korea. The idea that all must work for the collective, and all must be equal, and free exchange of goods and services absolutely stifles individual creativity, innovation, and the pure joy of individual accomplishment and seeking advancement. Marxisim is what whips up extreme liberals to take up arms and seek communism and become a Borg. Of this guy hates democracy and a capitalistic society that gives home a nice place to live like VT, perhaps he should move to whatever Marxist utopia he chooses. And Jefferson and Lincoln were not Marxist, nor is Trump a hero of Democracy, anymore than Putin is a true Communist (both just use the systems for personal and family gain). And Snowden is no hero either - he is a criminal who appointed himself as the judge of what to expose or not - not his call...60 Minutes actually did an expose a year before Snowden leaked his info on the NSA data collection room in California -it just didnt get much traction. Clearly this guy has a chip on his shoulder as he keeps posting in support of himself days after the article has run.

Re: “Burlington Town Hall Featuring Bernie Sanders Draws New American Crowd

Interesting that the discusssion has become one of iq and nation of origin and is has resulted in someone posting articles related to such studies. None noted race, just nationality. But, the USA was down in the twenties (what race is USA?), but far behind some of the other Asian countries with less average economic prosperity when compared to USA. Seems to me more of a cultural issue I.e. how much value the parents put on education. Parents, and not teachers, are the ones who need to instill value of education and insist upon study at home,

Re: “Burlington School District Places Embattled Counselor on Leave

NEA further showing it is all about protecting teachers pay and amazing cherry benefits for its members...not about what is best for the students (students are not union members). If you suck at your job, your fired for good cause ...not paid an additional 6 months for sitting on your ass at home with benefits covering your whole family. Why was this guy hired in the first place?

Re: “Despite Controversy, Burlington Principal Plans to Vet Student Newspaper Stories

Just create a Wordpress site and publish what you want online and email fellow students articles are up, nothing teachers can do about it. US Constitution Amendments are all important and should not be disrespected by a bunch of overly protective union members. Write what you want. SevenDays could even give the kids a weekly reporting space -let the teachers try to edit that
