I have heard and read of Hatch's antics and knew of the Zullo case, but to see the clear patterns that were established is very alarming. It is concerning that they kept him on as long as they did and tolerated as much as they did knowing that citizens were subjected to this level of racism and profiling. When a VSP is limited to not being allowed to perform searches independently, not sure why he wasn't fired or riding a desk at that point. He should have been taken off the road.
Interesting that VSP Trooper Jon Graham, a 16 year veteran, was suspended and fired immediately for posts he made to face book, stating they had "zero tolerance" for this kind of behavior, but then they allowed Hatch to continue in this capacity. Shocking.
The lesson learned here is get rid of bad apples as quickly as possible. The resources and costs, settlement fees, bad press and damage to the overall reputations just keeps growing exponentially. One just needs to look at the racism that happened in Rutland as a comparison.
Interesting that he is married to a state's attorney. No conflict of interest there. How does she present cases to judges that have ruled against her husband, just out of curiosity.
