Re: “Truancy Enforcement Is Difficult and Uneven Across Vermont

I have a child that missed 37 days of school and 49 days tardy she was 5 and in kindergarten. She turned 6 at the end of March. I got a letter on the last day of school from the school letting me know that a letter was sent to the state attorney and Dcf for truancy even though the law states kindergarten is not mandatory and most of her absence was from illness and family vacation as well as a family medical emergency. I am being brought to court even tho the school never set up a meeting not did I have a meeting with Dcf. I was not notified the whole school year of any of this. What can I do?
