Re: “Food Fight: Burlington-Area Grocers Spar for Customers

With the single exception of Trader Joe's, I am constantly astonished by the lack of good customer service in supermarkets here. I'm not that interested in the grandeur of the store as much as I am in being served by helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and polite people. Trader Joe's always hits it out of the park, but the others not so much.

Re: “Milton Students Return to Racial Turmoil

Why would a public school be displaying "culturally diverse symbols" of Islam and Buddhism? That's a clear violation of the separation of church and state. And yet, someone is praising them for this?

Re: “Begging for Change: Burlington Stabbings Prompt Proposed Penalties

Does Seven Days think that picture is cute? I suppose it's a way of editorializing instead of just reporting on the situation. Maybe the editors of this purported "newspaper" would like to take some of the scumbags home to live with them. Then you could practice all the social engineering you want, and the rest of us wouldn't have to pay for it with an increasingly lowered quality of life. Word is out that Burlington is the place to be if you're an aggressive, panhandling, sociopathic criminal, so there should be no shortage of people for you to take home to reform.

Re: “Notorious Transient Accused of Assaulting Burlington Business Owner

The scumbag was wandering the streets of Winooski this morning. Over a hundred arrests, he assaults somebody, and then goes free to walk the streets the next day. What's wrong with this picture? Word is out that Burlington and Winooski are the place to be if you're a scumbag, socially malfunctioning, sociopathic criminal. Unless some people wake up and start dealing with these people more firmly, the quality of life here is going to continue to get worse and worse.

Re: “Hood's Off: Burlington White Nationalist Attended Charlottesville Rally

The First Amendment states that the federal government cannot abridge your right to the exercise of free speech, and the Fourteenth Amendment applies that to the state governments. No one has a constitutional right to free speech with regard to their employer, though in some states there are statutes of varying content that offer some limited protections (Vermont is not one of them). Anyone who expresses extreme views, especially hateful views directed at minority groups, and who works in a business serving the public will, of necessity, be fired. Even in states with some protections the employer will find some other way. It's just that simple. Making into something bigger is meaningless sophistry. This young man is the embodiment of ignorance and foolishness, if for no other reason (and there are actually many other reasons, as his own words attest) than that he does not understand this simple fact.

Re: “Winooski Gay Bar Once Known as Mister Sister Has Closed

The Pride Center and a few social justice warriors, ever on the look-out for even the slightest hint of offense, got what they wanted. They managed through their never-ending outrage to get our only gay bar in years closed down. I wonder if the so-called "Pride" Center is proud of the good day's work they have done. But remember, this "Pride" Center: I am gay, and you do not speak for me, and I will never again support you in word or donation. Ever.

Re: “A South Burlington Grad Reflects on Renaming the Rebels

An intelligent and courageous young man who stood up to hatred and ignorance and never flinched. Maybe there's hope for this nation yet.
