Re: “Mayor Urges City Council to Reject Co-op Bid for Burlington Telecom

My question: Corporations are mandated legally to maximize shareholder profits. So, I can see why that argument is being made. However, can't the argument also be made that the Mayor's obligation is first and foremost to the taxpayers who have invested millions in maintaining a successful Burlington.

Shareholders' greed is a problem.

Re: “Burlington Teachers on Strike After Negotiations Fail

I have friends and family members who are teachers - they are historically and presently elitist and arrogant - they need a dose of reality.

Chris in SB - I bet the teachers would take all the credit if test scores improved - "You see how important we are."

Please stop using the "kids" as scapegoat, manipulation and blackmail tools. Whatever this is about, it is NOT about the kids.

Re: “Burlington Teachers Vote to Strike If Contract Battle Is Not Resolved

Could we please stop furthering teacher arrogance by promoting the myth that teachers work harder and have more important jobs than the rest of us - they don't.

If you are having a heart attack do you want a teacher or MD at your side. If your garbage is overflowing do you want a garbage collector or a teacher at your side. If the roads are covered with snow, do you want a snow remover or a teacher on the job? Car doesn't start - mechanic or teacher? Need to get across country - pilot or teacher...

Communities cannot afford teachers - we make less money than they do. They and their demands have become intolerable.

Jane: No Dave Hartnett does not own a gas station. No conflict of interest here

phuzzie: you assumed that those who do not ride in the winter have never tried it. Interpretation: I like it and if you try it you will like it to. Because everyone should be like me.
