Re: “Northern Front: Progs See an Opening in Burlington's Most Conservative District

Honestly , lets get beyond these stereotypes that perpetuate a failed political order in this part of town that is finally changing for the better! Most New North Enders feel both isolated and ignored by this growing political machine at our City Hall for a variety of good reasons. The lack of transparency and developer insider connections upset those of us living out here. That these two wards in the North District have the both the majority of somewhat affordable rentals and homeowner based properties along with a diversity of people and a large student population, should be the bulkhead of keeping Burlington, as a city that cares and listens to its residents. I come from a working class background, raised by a single mother the first to attend college and work professionally, but also someone who faced poverty as a child and worked every possible job to make ends meet. For balancing access and growth in the New North End is more than an intellectual endeavor, it is how someone like myself, now a single dad with special needs child and homegrown business out of my homestead, can continue to live and thrive in a very strong and welcoming neighborhood. Kiernan Christianson is a breath of fresh air in a district that is finally waking up. And its about time!

Re: “Jafar Vows to Remain in Burlington Council Race Despite Sexist Tweets

There are plenty of white adult men working at the state and local level throughout Vermont who have been given a bye while using much more intensive language and actual physical interactions with women, over the last several years. Fact is, it feels like another hatchet job by the pro-Miro forces within the Democratic party. Its bait sent out about another black candidate, just like last year when we found out details about mayoral hopeful Infinite Culcleasure's past around substance abuse and possession. By the way, he also had tweets addressing the issue of violent language toward women and his concern in ridding it last year, before he entered the race.

Re: “Knodell Will Run for Burlington City Council as an Independent

I may not be supporting Jane Knodell (a strong Perri Freeman supporter), but it is completely sexist and violent, having no place in political dialogue, to allow a commentary describing a politician's stance on development as akin to performing oral sex! It lowers this discourse into the gutter.

Re: “What’s Left? Young Burlington Progs Forge Ahead Without Jane Knodell

Seven Days emphasizing that Freeman was a young child when Knodell entered office is a cheap shot and of course very condescending. And mentioning she was a Connecticut native, when Knodell is from out of state, plays up this foolish outsider, not Vermonter stereotype. As far as I'm concerned, if Knodell runs, it would be to assure that a Miro supporting democrat like Carter would get in, instead of Freeman who is following the dictates of the Old North End, which is under extreme gentrification, as young people, new Americans, and working class Vermonters try to survive in this hotbed of capitalist exploitation. Do we want Burlington to turn into an upscale playground or can it survive as a truly diverse and afforable community, beholden to it's residents, first. We are not disposable commodities.

Re: “Longtime Councilor Knodell Loses Progressive Nomination

Finally, a group of truly active progressives that challenge our present city council board of corporate developer enablers. As a New North Ender, living in an city that seems to sell out ordinary working people for short sighted greed, a chance to get it back!

Re: “Uprooted: Burlington Farmers Market Seeks a New Home

Just like folks thought we would never lose First Night, the Farmers Market is no guarantee. I blame many parties but especially the city that came to the attention late, and to build what resembles a corporate plaza for our historic city park district. I don't see the market coming out of this stronger. Ironically a winter market success at a renovated Memorial seems a better possibility, but really nothing on the horizon for a truly effective summer market.

Re: “Couple Plans to Build a House on Burlington's Steep Depot Street

`That lot should have been preserved for green space long ago, instead we have a gentrified corner into an increasingly waterfront that is prohibitive rent or ownership wise. Are these folks going to be the latest to complain about our waterfront events, noise, and people? Yeah, Ann Arbor, once an affordable town, even more gentrified than Burlington today, does he realize why that town is no longer affordable?
